Csaba Szeremley's Report as the Coordinator of the Medical Mission
"On October 17th, the 9th medical mission was launched to Malawi. This was the 3rd neurosurgery team from the National Clinical Neuroscience Institute (Neurosurgery of the American Street). The team members included Dr. László Szegedi, the neurosurgeon who was also the chief organiser of the mission, Dr. Gábor Nagy and Dr. Attila Bagó, both senior physicians, Dr. Dávid Nagy, a neurosurgery resident, Dr. József Kelemen, an anesthesiologist, and Kitti Baranyai, the head nurse.
The mission was mainly supported by the Helping Angels Foundation and the Pure Life Foundation.
Over the two-week period, many life-saving and quality-of-life improving procedures were performed by our doctors both at the Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital's neurosurgical operating theatre and the Mercy James Children's Hospital. These procedures could not have been carried out by Malawi's only neurosurgeon.
Besides the surgeries, knowledge transfer was also crucial. Therefore, the Hungarian doctors conducted various training sessions for the Malawian doctors and operating room staff."
