The Members of our Ethiopian-Hungarian Medical Mission have returned home
The two-week mission in Addis Ababa has passed quickly. During the mission, six doctors (ophthalmologists, ENT specialists, and an anesthesiologist) worked at the Yaketit 12 Hospital. The local community received the Hungarian assistance with great enthusiasm.
At the hospital's ophthalmology department, an optometrist was working, as the only ophthalmologist in the area was at home caring for her infant child. Due to a lack of equipment, our doctors were only able to perform minor surgeries, but they conducted many screenings, examinations, and provided medical care to numerous patients.
Our anesthesiologist worked continuously, offering professional advice to local doctors and residents in 2-3 operating rooms. Additionally, he visited the Abebech Gobena Maternity and Children's Hospital, where he assessed the support we could offer in the near future.
Our ENT specialists performed 3-5 surgeries daily, alongside continuous screening and other medical services. The local hospital staff expressed their heartfelt gratitude when the team left, and our doctors received gifts at their consultation rooms. The hospital leadership thanked the team with a delightful dinner.
After a few days of rest at home, the team will prepare a summary report on the experiences of the two-week mission and begin working on plans for future initiatives.
We would like to thank the mission doctors for taking on this journey and using their expertise to assist in the healing of Ethiopian patients. Special thanks to our member, Csaba Szeremley, for physically coordinating the mission!
We would also like to express our gratitude to our sponsor, the Hungary Helps Agency Nonprofit Ltd., for making this mission possible!
Our thanks extend to our partners: the Óbuda University Bánki Donát Faculty of Mechanical and Safety Engineering, the Africa Research Institute, and the Hungarian Embassy in Ethiopia for their collaboration.
